Today, when performed with the most innovative technology, cataract surgery is a completely pain-free, non-invasive process. It can be performed via Laser or ultrasounds..
Both ultrasounds (phacoemulsification) and Laser cataract surgery are considered minimally invasive surgeries thanks to modern techniques.
The new minimally invasive cataract surgery makes it possible to permanently get rid of glasses thanks to a 1,8-2,2mm micro-incision. Cataract is removed and an intraocular lens (IOL) is placed in its place inside the eye.
Choosing the right intraocular lens is the right way to properly see far and near objects without glasse. Dr. Badalà performes advanced cataract surgeries in Milan and Catania.
Today, in most cases, cataract surgery is performed after a topic anesthesia, that is a lidocaine based collirium: the eye is still able to see and move.
The advantage of this procedure is that the patient restarts seeing after the surgery without inconveniences.
In some cases, it may be appropriate to perform a peribulbar or retrobulbar anesthesia, via an injection of anesthetic near the eye in order to numb it and its muscles.
The patient is unable to see and move the eye for approximately 4-5 hours when carbocaine is used; if naropin is used, it can take up to 10-12 hours for theeffects to go away. This is a suggested technique for especially complex cataract surgeries or when patients are having a hard time keeping the eye still.
The new intraocular lens are the most important product in cataract surgery nowadays. There are several types that can also be customized and modeled on the eye carachteristics: this makes it possible to correct small individual flaws.
The most modern intraocular lens are:
Your ophtalmologist of choice will suggest the best lens for your needs. Dr. Badalà introduced High Tech lenses in Italy (customizable with light) and performs cataract surgery with the most innovative intraocular lenses in Milan and Catania.

Problem: Astigmatism, Cataract, Hypermetropia, PresbyopiaSolution: Cataract surgery with Multifocal IOL implant
I underwent Cataract surgery with Multifocal IOL around two months ago. I was hoping to regain the clear vision that I had lost years ago. In addition to cataract I had astigmatism, hypermetropia and presbyopia.
I was... Keep on reading this review welcomed with very warm and professional manners (this is very important considering the little fear everyone has before surgery), Dr. Badala explained in details what was going to happen during the operation . During surgery, you have to look where the doctor tells and keep still. It is a little effort but it is more than worth it!
After surgery the happiness of seeing everything well, far and near without glasses!
I underwent surgery in my second eye the following day and I recommend doing so, seeing well with both eyes is excellent ! …and Dr. Badalà is a very professional and human doctor!
