Different kind of surgeries to treat maculopathy can be performed in convention with the most important insurance companies, supplementary funds and health funds.
Some insurance companies consider a direct payment for health services, with no obligations for its patients; some others consider an indirect assistance. In this case, the patient gets a refund after providing the invoices for the services
We have conventions available with the following insurance companies:
Some kind of Maculopathy surgeries can be performed via the National Health Service (SSN) or ASL (Local Health Center), with no need for the patient to pay hospitals or conventioned clinics.
Injections with intravitreal medications, can be today performed with SNN: conditions may vary from region to region. Lombardy makes it possible to be treated with Lucentis and a new medication called Eylea via SNN.
New medication for treating maculopathy are usually considered non refundable by SNN, at least for the first months from the medications’ introduction. This is, for example, the case for Iluvien, a new medication for treating diabetic retinopathy, that is currently non refundable by SNN.
When curing maculopathies, it is fundamental to act as soon as possible. Some hospitals mau have long waiting times: in these cases it may be better to look around and find another clinic that can perform treatment more quickly.
Furthermore, since usually more than one intravitreal injection is needed, it would be best, is possible, to immediately schedule the next injections in order to avoid waiting for too long in between treatments.
Some kind of surgeries for curing maculopathy like intraocular lens implants, specific for maculopathy (e.g. iolAMD), are not refundable by SNN.

Keep on reading this reviewxamination and an OCT, he confirmed the presence of a hole in the retina (which no other doctor had seen before) and he suggested me a vitrectomy. After consulting other doctors who, despite having confirmed the diagnosis, suggested me to wait, I decided to entrust Dr. Badalà, because he inspired me with confidence during the visit. I had a vitrectomy under local anesthesia about five months ago. The surgery was good and my eyesight has improved and I no longer see distorted images. The thing that struck me most is that at first I was so used to don’t see well that I didn’t realize it, so much so that I had turned to Dr. Badalà just for a burning sensation to the eye. Thanks to the professionalism and accuracy of Dr. Badalà today I realize I see much better.
