Medical Therapy

When curing diabetic retinopathy, medical therapy is fundamental. In case of diabetes, it is very important to keep the glucose metabolism under control. Diabetic patients should keep glycemia levels between 80 and 120 mg/dl; it is also necessary to monitor glicate haemoglobin, that is the index of glycemia trend in the last three months. It is best if such level is kept around 6.

To keep a good metabolic control, the first rules to follow are exercising and an appropriate diet. If a pharmacological therapy becomes necessary, oral hypoglycemics can be used and/or insulin, to improve ematic flux, platelets aggregation and other vascular parameters.
