Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy for maculopathy is the first treatment for exudative maculopathy to be effective and safe.

It is used for treating exudative maculopathy. A substance that makes the patient sensitive to light is injected intravenously: this accumulates selectively in the neovessels (verteporfin) and after that, a non thermal laser is applied.

It is abolutely necessary not to be exposed to light for the next 3 days after treatment. This laser is especially ideal to treat maculopathy of patients with myopia and/or in association with antiangiogenetic therapy (anti-VEGF drugs).
