When to get Astigmatism Laser Surgery?

Minimum Requirements

The minimum age for eye laser surgery is 18-20.Astigmatism must have been stable for at least 2 years. If astigmatism conditions are not stable, myopia can come back after surgery, and a new treatment could become necessary.

When patients are 45 years old or more, other treatments are available to correct astigmatism, especially if linked to myopia, based upon lens substitution. This is the case of the so called Refractive Phacoemulsification surgery, consisting in substituting the original lens with an intraocular one that makes it possible to properly see far and near objects without glasses.

There are several kinds of intraocular lens that allow to correctly focus on near and far objects without having to rely on glasses (multifoca, bifocal, trifocal, High Tech, etc.), and Dr. Badalà uses all the most innovative lenses in Milan and Catania.

After turning 60

When patients are more than 60 years old, it is usually no longer convenient to perform astigmatism laser surgery, because there are often other eye conditions at play, like the opacity of the lens: such conditions could make myopia come back in a short period of time. The best choice is to go with Refractive Phacoemulsification surgery, consisting in substituing the natural lens with an intraocular one, able to correct myopia and astigmatism.

Depending on the kind of intraocular lens used to correct myopia, it may be or may not be necessary to rely on glasses to focus on near objects. Latest generation intraocular lens make it possible to focus on near and far objects without glasses (multifoca, bifocal, trifocal, High Tech, etc.); D. Badalà uses all the most innovative lenses available in Milan and Catania.

Astigmatism laser surgery for both eyes

Today this is standard procedure for laser surgery.Where myopia is treated via the implant of phakic intraocular lenses or Refractive Phacoemulsification surgery, usually one eye is operated first, while the second one is treated a couple of days after.

There are cases when the ophthalmologist could decide to operate both eyes at the same time even in these circumstances, but it should be considered an exception. Dr. Badalà performed this surgeries at the same time in Milan.

Votazione: Eccellente
Problem: Cataract, Myopia
High myopia (17 diopters in both eyes) with cataract represented for me a considerable handicap: blepharitis and dry eye do not allow the use of contact lenses and with glasses I could barely see at intermediate distance... Keep on reading this review.

All the ophthalmologists I went to suggested to postpone cataract surgery, considering the precarious conditions of the retina.

I trusted Dr. Badalà (I read good things on the Internet about his innovative surgeries) who, after all the necessary tests, reassured me about the feasibility of the operation.

On 22 and 23 January, 2015 in Milan, in a welcoming atmosphere with state of the art equipment, Dr. Badala' performed cataract surgery in both eyes, with implantation of monofocal aspheric IOL, under topical anesthesia.

I am pleased with an excellent result in both eyes, thanks to Dr. Badalà expertise!
