When to get Myopia Laser Surgery?

Minimum Requirements

The minimum age for eye laser surgery is 18-20.Myopia must have been stable for at least 2 years.

If myopia conditions are not stable, myopia can come back after surgery, and a new treatment could become necessary.

When patients are 45 years old or more, other treatments are available to correct myopia, based upon lens substitution. This is the case of the so called Refractive Phacoemulsification surgery, consisting in substituting the original lens with an intraocular one that makes it possible to properly see far and near objects without glasses.

There are several kinds of intraocular lens that allow to correctly focus on near and far objects without having to rely on glasses (multifoca, bifocal, trifocal, High Tech, etc.), and Dr. Badalà uses all the most innovative lenses in Milan and Catania.

After turning 60

When patients are more than 60 years old, it is usually no longer convenient to perform myopia laser surgery, because there are often other eye conditions at play, like the opacity of the lens: such conditions could make myopia come back in a short period of time.

The best choice is to go with Refractive Phacoemulsification surgery, consisting in substituing the natural lens with an intraocular one, able to correct myopia and astigmatism.

Depending on the kind of intraocular lens used to correct myopia, it may be or may not be necessary to rely on glasses to focus on near objects.

Latest generation intraocular lens make it possible to focus on near and far objects without glasses (multifoca, bifocal, trifocal, High Tech, etc.); D. Badalà uses all the most innovative lenses available in Milan and Catania.

Myopia laser surgery for both eyes

Today this is standard procedure for laser surgery. Where myopia is treated via the implant of phakic intraocular lenses or Refractive Phacoemulsification surgery, usually one eye is operated first, while the second one is treated a couple of days after.

There are cases when the ophthalmologist could decide to operate both eyes at the same time even in these circumstances, but it should be considered an exception.

Dr. Badalà performed this surgeries at the same time in Milan.

Votazione: Eccellente
I had big problems due to cataract and high myopia (-20) with astigmatism (-2.0) in both eyes. So, a year ago, I underwent the crystalline lens replacement surgery with intraocular lens implantation.

I often did not r... Keep on reading this reviewecognize, at short distance, the faces of people I met and even contact lenses could not improve my vision (I wore them all day but they gave me a considerable discomfort to the eyes).

Now I see very well without glasses. I need them only to read closely, bust just for small letters. I see 10/10 from distance and I easily drive at night.

Sure, before surgery, I had so much anxiety, but with a slight sedation I was able to collaborate, by staring at the light the Doctor suggested me to look during surgery. I was assisted well in all phases of the operation. After about ten minutes I got back to my feet and I immediately see well from the operated eye without glasses.

I underwent surgery in the right eye at first and, two days later, in the left eye. Before the complete recover, I observed a short period of rest, I carefully followed the treatment with eye drops and I wore a protective shell at night.

For me a new life has started: I do not have to wear those heavy glasses or annoying contact lenses, which need a careful maintenance. Sure it is not easy to stay awake and collaborate during surgery, but the sureness of being operated by experienced hands helps very much.
