Maculopathy TEST – Amsler TEST

The test to spot MACULOPATHY is the AMSLER test. The typical symptom is METAMORPHOPSIA, that consists in seeing distorted lines.

How to perform the Amsler test?1. download and print the pdf without changing document size (A4)
2. Wear reading glasses in necessary
3. keep the grid at a 30-40 cm distance
4. Cover your left eye with the palm of your hand
5. hold the test in your right hand, at a comfortable reading distance
6. focus the dot at the center of the grid with your right eye
7. try to understand if you happen to see deformed, distorted or broken lines, or a dark spot
8. repeat the same procedure for the other eye.
If any zone of the grud appear curved, blurred or dark, immediately get in touch with your ophthalmologist of choice.

Myopia TEST

Standing 3 meters away, which letter do you see better? The one on the red background or the green one?
People affected by myopia see better on RED. People affected by hypermetropia see better on GREEN.
The greater the distance, the more accurate your evaluation is going to be.

Astigmatism TEST

Try to look at this “star” with one eye at a time and evaluate how you see the “rays”: do they all appear clean and crips? If you find differences in one or more directions you may have astigmatism!

TEST for children

The logarithmic table allows to study everu visual acuity in a uniform way. For this reason it is useful to analyze low visual acuities, like the ones of children with ambliopya.

Contrast sensitivity TEST

This table allows to analyze contrast at high resolution, in relation to visus of 1/10 that usually corresponds to the absolute contrast threshold.

The logarithmic table allows to study everu visual acuity in a uniform way. For this reason it is useful to analyze low visual acuities, like the ones of patients affected by maculopathies, neuropathies or alterations caused by optic mediums. Tests listed here cannot replace the ones performed by your ophthalmologist.
