The Achievement Award of the prestigious Society of American Ophthalmologists<\/a><\/strong> (American Academy of Ophthalmology) will be presented<\/strong> in October in Chicago to four Italian ophthalmologists.<\/strong> The award ceremony will take place on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Society of American Ophthalmologists which will be held in Chicago from 27 to 30 October 2018. The four Italians have distinguished themselves for their contribution to the advancement of ophthalmology<\/strong> and for their significant contribution to scientific and teaching activities of the AAO. This recognition of Italian Ophthalmological Excellence<\/b> (earned at prestigious Foreign Ophthalmological Institutions for all four awarded Italian ophthalmologists) can be a message of hope for all Italian patients<\/b> seeking the solution to their ophthalmological problems. \"\"<\/p>\n

Federico Badala, MD; Milan<\/strong>\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

He graduated in Medicine and specialized in Ophthalmology with the\u00a0<\/b>full marks and praise. By<\/strong> passing<\/b> the United States Medical Licensing Examination, he obtains the license to operate in the USA where he will stay from 2004 to 2008.<\/b> He is Visiting\u00a0<\/b>Assistant Professor at the Jules Stein Eye Institute of the University of California Los Angeles and Clinical Fellow in Cornea Surgery in Philadelphia at<\/b> Wills Eye Hospital, the first ophthalmic hospital in the USA. He introduces a series of innovative interventions in Italy:<\/b> In 2008 he implants the artificial cornea for the first time in Italy:<\/strong> ” Boston Keratoprosthesis<\/b> “<\/strong> conceived and created at the prestigious Harvard University;
\n<\/strong>2010 – introduces cataract<\/strong> surgery<\/strong><\/a> in Italy with the implantation of<\/strong> customizable<\/strong> intraocular lenses<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>with light;<\/b>
\n<\/strong>2013 – brings to Milan the new non-invasive cornea transplant called DMEK;<\/strong> 2014 – brings the AMD IOL telescopic intraocular lens to Italy, the best innovation in ophthalmology;<\/b> 2016 – introduces the first intraocular lenses with an expanded field of vision in Italy<\/strong> :<\/strong> the EyeMax intraocular lenses for those suffering from maculopathy. Francesco Pichi,<\/strong> MD; Maleo (LO)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Associate staff physician at the Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi<\/strong>. Before joining the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Pichi practices at the Cole Eye Institute, at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA. Dr. Pichi’s experience in Europe and the United States contributes to his diverse expertise in disease presentations in the fields of retinal and uveitis<\/strong>. \"\"<\/a> Grace Pertile, MD; Negrar (VR)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Director of Ophthalmology of the IRCCS Sacred Heart Don Calabria<\/strong>, fifty-two years old, originally from Asiago. Since 2003 he has been head of the Negrar Ophthalmology Department.<\/strong> After completing his specialization at Maastricht University,<\/strong> he worked from 1999 to 2003 at the Middelheim Hospital in Antwerp (Belgium). An internationally renowned surgeon<\/strong>, he is part of the team for the creation of the entirely “made in Italy” photovoltaic artificial retina<\/strong>. Joseph Querques, MD; Milan<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at<\/strong> the Vita-Salute University, San Raffaele Hospital, Milan<\/strong>. His main interests are \"\"<\/a> Medical Retina<\/strong> (age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular pathologies, hereditary macular and retinal dystrophies) and Surgery<\/strong> (retinal and cataracts). Prof. Querques has contributed to<\/strong> more than 350 scientific works in the area of medical retina, published in indexed international scientific journals.<\/strong> He is also editor (in chief\/associate) and reviewer of the main scientific journals in the ophthalmology field. His area of clinical and laboratory research is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, hereditary macular and retinal dystrophies.
