This lens is clear at birth and becomes opaque with age.<b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/glaucoma-cataratta.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-12617\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/glaucoma-cataratta.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"185\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\"><strong>The symptoms of cataract are as follows:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">\u2014 discomfort in front of lights<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u2014 alteration of colors<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2014 blurred vision<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Surgery is the only solution to the symptoms caused by cataract. In the presence of Maculopathy and Cataract, cataract surgery should be performed only when the Maculopathy is stable.<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>First it is important to treat the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/maculopathy-symptoms-causes-types-and-treatments\/\">Maculopathy<\/a> and then when the Maculopathy is stable the cataract is treated<\/strong>.\u00a0The damage caused by Maculopathy is not reversible while that caused by cataract is. The sight that is lost due to cataract is regained after surgery, the sight that is lost due to maculopathy is more difficult to regain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2024, <strong>treating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/cataract-symptoms-causes-operation-convalescence-and-cost\/\">cataract<\/a> in a patient with stable maculopathy can also greatly improve vision<\/strong>. The cataract is removed with the Laser and ultrasound and a specific intraocular lens for Maculopathy is inserted inside the eye.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>There are several intraocular lenses for Cataract and Maculopathy<\/strong>: the most used is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/en-news\/eye-max-the-latest-innovation-for-macular-degeneration\/\">EyeMax lens<\/a> that our clinic brought to Italy and helped develop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Other commonly used lenses include the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Smaller-Incision New-Generation IMT (SING IMT)<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Scharioth Macular IOL.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">MAX lenses.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Our center is able to indicate which is the most suitable intraocular lens for the different types of cataracts and Maculopathy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Maculopathy: Symptoms and Treatment <\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/maculopathy-symptoms-causes-types-and-treatments\/\">Maculopathy<\/a> is the disease of the macula, which is the central part of the retina responsible for seeing the images in front of us. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\"><strong>The symptoms of maculopathy initially include image distortion, and as the disease progresses, there is a reduction in central vision, making it difficult to drive, read, and recognize faces<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">There are two main forms of Maculopathy:<span class=\"s1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/vabysmo-faricimab-farmaciAntiVEGF.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13422 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/vabysmo-faricimab-farmaciAntiVEGF-300x157.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/vabysmo-faricimab-farmaciAntiVEGF-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/vabysmo-faricimab-farmaciAntiVEGF-1024x535.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/vabysmo-faricimab-farmaciAntiVEGF-768x401.png 768w, https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/vabysmo-faricimab-farmaciAntiVEGF.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\"><strong>Wet Maculopathy<\/strong> \u2013 It evolves quickly and <strong>must be promptly treated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/maculopathy\/laser-interventions\/\">Intravitreal Injections of AntiVEGF Drugs<\/a><\/strong>. These are injections of specific drugs administered inside the eye, usually on a monthly basis during the acute phase of the disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><strong>Dry Maculopathy<\/strong> \u2013 It evolves more slowly than the wet form. It is linked to an inflammation of the Macula mediated by Complement (a molecule present in our body). <strong>To date, there is no specific universally accepted treatment. In the USA there have been two approved therapies for the dry form for about a year, these are intravitreal injections to be done monthly<\/strong>. <span class=\"s1\"><b><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14721 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Izervay-maculopatia.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"181\" height=\"130\" \/><\/b><\/span>One drug is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/en-news\/dry-maculopathy-new-treatment-in-the-usa\/\">Syfovre<\/a> another is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/en-news\/dry-maculopathy-new-treatment-in-the-usa\/\">Izervay<\/a>. None of these are currently available in Europe. The use of the former was rejected in Europe by the EMA (European Medicines Agency) in January 2024. However, it is hypothesized that by 2024 at least one of the two will become available in Europe.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When maculopathy is associated with cataract, the latter further influences the decrease in vision. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microchirurgiaoculare.com\/en\/cataract\/laser-treatments\/\">Cataract surgery<\/a> can help improve the eyesight of those suffering from cataracts and maculopathy<\/strong>.
