At the World Cornea Congress the results of different keratoconus\u2019 Cross-Linking technics have been discussed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cross-linking is a cornea\u2019s treatment for patients with keratoconus. The main purpose of this treatment is improve the links between collagen\u2019s molecules of the cornea<\/strong>. The treatment can be done with EPI-OFF technic (removing corneal epithelium) or with EPI-ON technic (corneal epithelium isn\u2019t removed).<\/p>\n<p>At San Diego was show how the <strong>EPI-ON technic(transepithelial Cross-Linking<\/strong>) is <strong>less powerful<\/strong> than <strong>EPI-OFF (keratoconus Cross-Linking)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6480 size-medium\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Cross-Linking-PIC-300x131.jpg\" alt=\"Cross Linking PIC\" width=\"223\"  \/>The advantage of EPI-ON technique is less discomfort than the one experienced with an intact corneal epithelium.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6481\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Cross-Linking-PIC-2-300x159.jpg\" alt=\"Cross Linking PIC 2\" width=\"223\" height=\"118\" \/>Studies showed at San Diego demonstrated that EPI-ON technique enforces only the superficial part of the cornea, contrarily, Cross-linking treatment is deeper and able to stop Keratoconus\u2019 progression.
